Who Put The Puzzling Monolith On Phobos?

When the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) spacecraft was mapping the small moon of Mars, Phobos, and sent its incredible images from the small, potato-shaped moon back to Earth satellite ufologists had a field day speaking about the mysterious structure that was clearly visible on the surface of Phobos.

There in plain view, a large rectangular object undoubtedly resembling an artificial monolith stands alone. Nothing in the vicinity has a similar shape or size, so the question is, what is it? What is its purpose? And who placed it there?

Rumors about the object became so intense that famous “Buzz” entered into the debate.

Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the surface of the moon, surprised many by saying:

“We should visit the moon of Mars, there’s a monolith there, a very unusual structure on this little potato-shaped object that revolves around Mars once every seven hours. When people find out about that they are going to say, “Who put that there? Who put that there?” Well, the universe put it there, or if you choose, God put it there.”

Astronomers didn’t hesitate to quickly offer an explanation about the mysterious structure that had ufologists scratching their heads. According to astronomers and specialists in satellite images, it is just another “Extraterrestrial rock”.

A specialist in images from NASA Lan Fleming, who studied Mars and other solar system anomalies examined the picture of Phobos and stated that the so-called monolith is just a physical anomaly and that there are many others found in different parts of our solar system.

A feature on the surface of Mars, in which some people believe they see a face, is shown in a photograph sent by the Viking spacecraft in 1976. Mission officials for the Mars Global Surveyor are taking an opportunity to observe the so-called Face on Mars before the spacecraft begins mapping the planet, NASA s Jet Propulsion Laboratory said Thursday, March 26, 1998.Interest in this small Martian satellite has always been great, and numerous debates fueled up between scientists and science fiction enthusiasts.

In 1966, astronomer Carl Sagan and Russian author Shklovskii, argued that Phobos could be an artificial satellite of Mars, just like the Moon to planet Earth and that this little Martian moon, just like Earth’s moon, is hollow inside.

Unexplained surface features as numerous grooves located on Phobos deserve special attention according to researchers.

Theories trying to explain the mysterious monolith on the Martian satellite accumulated throughout the years. Renowned scientist Dr. Isaac Asimov wrote a story where he suggested that Phobos was an abandoned alien Ship from the distant past, that was captured by the gravity of the Red Planet.

The famous “Face on Mars” is another object that has caused quite adequate among researchers and ufologists. While some suggest there is nothing to this mysterious structure located in the Cydonia region of Mars, others believe that there is a mysterious story behind the Face on Mars and other “constructions” in the vicinity.

According to an Alfred McEwen, the principal investigator from the University of Arizona’s HiRISE department, said:

‘There are lots of rectangular boulders on Earth and Mars and other planets.”
“Layering from rock deposition combined with tectonic fractures creates right-angle planes of weakness such that rectangular blocks tend to weather out and separate from the bedrock.”
