What are the most radioactive places on Earth? There is a tendency to think that radioactivity only has something to do with nuclear energy and atomic bombs. However, in reality, we are exposed to radioactive materials in everyday life; for example, bananas are radioactive. No need to worry though, because the dose of radioactivity they deliver does not pose a risk to human health. Even though banana fields are not on the list, there are still quite a few radioactive places on Earth that can be detrimental to human health, and this video tackles 5 of them. Before going into detail about these places, let’s start with a question: “What is radioactivity?” As you can infer from its name, radioactivity is the act of emitting radiation spontaneously, and there are some places on Earth that emit high levels of radiation. There are several reasons why these places emit that much though, ranging from radiation leaks to nuclear disasters. They share a common ground since they are in such conditions as the results of human acts. The Chernobyl disaster can be shown as an example. There are exceptions though, like the Fukushima disaster which was caused by the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.
