Double Lucky on a Canoe Trip

Elk River Canoe Trip

In the summers when I was in high school we went canoeing on weekends below Tim’s Ford Dam on the Elk River  in Tennessee with my friends. I grew up doing this since I was about 11 or 12 years old with my family and we did a lot of camping as well on this particular weekend my friend and I did something my Dad told us never to do. Always check the TVA Dam Water release schedules for safety purposes. But we decided this would make for a fun trip, less paddling more steering and running the rapids. However we picked the wrong time to go canoeing that weekend, at first it was exciting and fun then we realized we were in danger we got lodged between two tree trunks then flipped over lost everything and struggling to get to the banks.  Every man for himself lol. Later we woke up at our parking spot and the canoe was on the bank everything else was gone paddles , coolers , seat cushions etc. No clue how we got there but decided that we’re not going to tell anyone about it.  So basically it got suppressed in my mind for years. The next day we did go back in search for the lost items and they were up in the trees , so we were lucky. Double Lucky that is because the Beings took care of us.
